Dear Appreciated Clients,
I am deeply grateful for all of your trust in caring for your pets at Sunshine Holistic Veterinary Service since opening in Sedona. It has been a privilege to be a part of your pets’ care and to get to know so many of you.
For health reasons it has become necessary that I take a period of leave from my practice. I will close the practice for now until I have a better idea of my situation. Reta will be managing the office Monday-Friday from 8:00am-1:00pm to service anyone who needs herb and or supplement refills for their animal companion(s) up until March 15th. Dawn will be checking the phone (928-848-9828) once a week on Monday mornings after the 15 th for remaining refills to be filled until April 15, 2019.
I appreciate all of your well wishes and prayers on my behalf and am hoping to be better as soon as possible.
I will notify you as soon as I am better and able to return to the practice.
In the meantime, I recommend consulting the website of All Pets Acupuncture and Holistic Health Care https://apahvet.com/ for a directory of holistic veterinarians.

Our Holistic Veterinary Approach to Your Animal’s Care
We begin with an in-depth history taking
The discussion period (commonly referred to as “history taking” in veterinary medicine) is in-depth. The focus is to get to the root cause of your animal’s condition.
We will be inquiring about your animal’s:
- Thirst levels
- Digestive habits – stools, burping, vomiting
- Sleep patterns
- Temperament and behavior
- Previous illnesses
You know things about your animal that we don’t know and have concerns that are specific to you and your animal. Therefore, we listen and don’t rush the appointment.
Dr. Metcalf interprets all medical information using the holistic perspective
Previous medical records, lab results, ultrasounds, and medical information that have been done for your animal are reviewed. We interpret these along with our findings, putting it all together to better understand your animal’s circumstances.
Your animal is given a multi-faceted physical examination
We do a multi-faceted physical examination, including typical factors of any veterinary exam, plus elements that give us more information. This gives us a much richer understanding of the animal’s state.
Gentle, yet powerful treatments are provided
These treatments are tailored specifically for your animal’s condition and are done alone or in combination at our holistic veterinary clinic in Sedona.
- Osteopathic/Chiropractic adjustments
We develop herb, supplement, and nutritional programs
Herbs and/or supplements are prescribed and directed toward your individual animal’s particular needs and to further aid your animal’s body to heal.
An appropriate diet is advised to remove elements that are promoting the disease or disorder, and add nutritional elements to promote your animal’s health.
Aftercare and follow-up are explained
- Aftercare instructions are given including any further tests advised such as blood tests, x-rays, etc.
- A follow-up call is done by us in the days after the initial visit.
- Communication with your animal’s conventional veterinarian is provided as needed.
